Being Erin Karpluk

Coming into the tail-end of its third season, CBC’s temporal dramedy Being Erica is down in the ratings but still has its grip on pop culture — enough that Toronto Life keeps a running “BS Detector” blog of how anachronistic its retro scenes are. Moreover, it’s now airing in 150 countries, including the US, where it’s become a cable sensation. Vancouver-based star Erin Karpluk, who balances her Erica duties with a US role on The CW drama Life Unexpected, spoke to EYE WEEKLY about time travel, Toronto and killing Dr. Tom.
What do you think of how much Being Erica reps Toronto?
Toronto’s almost like its own character on the show. For me, not being from Toronto, it's an amazing way to get to know the city. We’ve shot on Centre Island, at the AGO — I think we were the first show to ever shoot in there, and it’s gorgeous. We’ve shot at Lake Simcoe, at Casa Loma — all the downtown exteriors. I love that we can use Toronto as itself — it’s not pretending to be another city.
What separates Toronto from other cities that make it work as a “character”?
Culture, culture, culture. You’ve got Little Italy, Little Portugal, Greek Town. Luminato. Caribana. TIFF. Fashion Week. I’m blown away by how there’s always something going on in Toronto. People work hard, they play hard.

Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall Divorcing

NEW YORK (CBS) It's over between "Dexter" costars Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall.

The pair, who play brother and sister on the Showtime drama, are divorcing after two years of marriage, their rep confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday.

"Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce," their rep said in a joint statement.

Both reps add that the split was amicable.

Earlier this year, Hall, 39, completed treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He and Carpeter, 31, met on the set of their show and tied the knot on Dec. 31, 2008.

Vanessa Hudgens showed she is not wasting any time dwelling on her break-up with boyfriend Zac Efron as she gathered up her closest friends and headed to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday! Vanessa, who is now 22, was seen with pals including Brittany Snow and Asley Tisdale enjoying a meal of Snow Crab Dynamite, Citrus Peel Miso Cod, Shishito Peppers and an assortment of sushi and sashimi at Social House on Dec. 18, before heading over to PURE Nightclub inside of Caesars Palace!

The star and her friends partied until 1 am, even enjoying a delicious 3 foot tall red velvet cake, then headed up to the Emperors Suite to keep the party going in private!
It seems like Vanessa’s Vegas birthday weekend was just the thing she needed to cheer her up!
